Privacy
SubnetSleuth is made by Justin White, a sole proprietor in Canada ("we", "us"). This notice explains what personal information we handle through this website, purchases and the SubnetSleuth software, and what we do not.
The software
SubnetSleuth runs on your computer. Your projects, scan results, credentials, notes and AI questions stay on your computers; we never receive them. The software does not collect usage statistics or telemetry.
- Update check: when you choose Help ▸ Check for updates, SubnetSleuth asks subnetsleuth.com whether a newer version exists. That request carries no project data and no licence details; like any web request, it reveals your IP address to our hosting provider.
- Licences are verified on your computer. There is no activation server.
- AI services: if you configure Claude Desktop, Claude Code or an AI provider, the data shown by Show what will be sent goes to that service when you ask a question, under that service's terms. You choose whether and where; masking can remove addresses and names first.
- Systems you connect: SubnetSleuth sends read-only requests only to the devices, platforms and servers you point it at.
This website
The website is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes request data such as your IP address and browser details to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie.
Purchases
Payments are processed by PayPal, which collects your payment details under its own privacy policy; we never see or store card or bank details. From PayPal we receive your name, email address and what you bought, and from the pricing page the organisation name you choose to give. We use this to issue and re-issue your licence key (your name, email and organisation are written into the key), to provide support, to answer refund requests and to keep the accounting records the law requires. We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not use it for marketing without your consent.
Retention
Purchase records are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires (in Canada, generally six years). Support emails are kept while they are useful for helping you and then deleted.
Your rights
You can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete what we are not required to keep, by emailing [email protected]. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under laws such as Canada's PIPEDA or the EU GDPR, and you can complain to your data protection authority.
Service providers
We rely on Cloudflare (hosting) and PayPal (payments). They process personal information on our behalf or as independent controllers under their own terms, and may do so outside your country.
Changes and contact
We will post any change to this notice here with a new date. Questions: [email protected].
