Documentation

Everything you need to go from an installer to a documented network.

System requirements

The desktop app

  • Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.
  • About 500 MB of disk space; 8 GB of memory is plenty for networks of tens of thousands of hosts.
  • No administrator rights to install. Nmap's OS detection and traceroute need Administrator.

The command line

  • Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, or Linux x86-64 with glibc 2.35 or newer (Ubuntu 22.04+, Debian 12+, RHEL, Rocky or Alma 9+).

On the network

  • Your computer must reach the devices: UDP 161 for SNMP, and whatever ports the optional steps use (SSH 22, WinRM 5985/5986, LDAP 389/636, the platforms' HTTPS APIs).
  • A read-only SNMP credential (v2c community or SNMPv3 user) for the network devices.
  • Optional: accounts or API keys for the platforms you connect; Nmap for port and deep scans; Claude Code, Claude Desktop or an AI provider for AI questions.

Internet access

Not needed. Licences are checked on your computer. SubnetSleuth only goes online when you ask it to check for a new version, and to reach the cloud platforms and AI services you configure.
